Spina Bifida Awareness Raid Train Fundraiser

October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month in the USA. I just recently found that in Canada, the awareness month is in June.

Great things happened most recently as I hosted and organized a fundraiser for the Spina Bifida Association through the live streaming platform of Twitch. Several streamers gathered to participate in this event. As well as a few streamers who were behind the scenes and supporting the event with organizing it and finding those who would agree to participate.

Things got started early with a gaming stream before the actual event started. Then it moved on to the main event which included several gaming streams as well as music and cooking streams. The lineup was very diverse and very supportive.

A few highlights worth mentioning here were the fact that the song "Lullaby" by Ottawa based singer-songwriter Danielle Allard was performed FOUR SEPARATE TIMES from various streamers.

There was a heart racing moment when during the evening I received an e-mail that had a screen capture attached to it showing that someone had privately donated $1,000 to the fundraiser, but moments later I received a follow up e-mail stating that the amount was made in error as the person sending the donation pressed too many zeros in the amount. Thankfully for them, that issue had been resolved.

We will never really know just how much money was made through donations as they were made privately on the Spina Bifida Association website. Some streamers did show how much they were going to donate, and a few other people reached out to me privately telling me how much they donated. But the grand total from the entire event will never really be known.

What I find amusing is that this happened over the weekend. And whoever is heading up the donation department for the SBA is going to find these sudden donations coming from all over the world when they get into work Monday morning.

I want to do it again next October. My wish is that we have more streamers involved in the event.

I would once again like to thank those who participated in the fundraising event whether they streamed or helped organize everything from making graphics to gathering streamers together. If you are on Twitch and enjoy music or video games, by all means please do follow these magnificent streamers.

Coming Soon: S.Y.N.T.H.

As 2020 rolled around and the devastating introduction of the epidemic of COVID-19 was terrorizing the planet, the availability of enjoying live music in person went to an absolute zero.

Full time musicians were scrambling on trying to figure out a way to still make a living while being stuck inside of their homes.

Enter Twitch.

Over the past two years I have gone to Twitch to watch musicians participate in live performances while streaming live from their homes.

I have come across a great number of live streamers in the short time I have been on Twitch. Musicians and gaming alike. I even started streaming towards the end of March 2021 but have since gone through some difficult times in my personal life which had me unable to stream regularly. Now I have a new computer which I feel is a personal upgrade I should be able to do more on Twitch. It just depends on my availability.

Right before the pandemic hit, I had an idea for a new project that I would record interviews with local artists and bands. But through the power of the Internet I can reach out globally to people that I could never reach before, or even heard of before until Twitch came along.I will be embarking on something that I call "S.Y.N.T.H." (Shit/Stuff You Need To Hear.)

I will continue to have the same content as I did before as well. But I wanted to add more content to the channel. So far, I have three people that have agreed to be featured. I am stoked!!

Follow me on Twitch to keep up to date on this new content and be notified when I return to Twitch and get back to live streaming again.

WHAT TO EXPECT HERE:

I aim to bring the same content as I had before. After losing the ability to add additional blog posts to the original blogging website and over 800 posts over a period of ten years that I am no longer able to edit.

I will be writing about personal experiences for the purposes of educating the readers of what life is like with a disability. I also will be writing about the crazy, ridiculous, and the curiosity of the world. There will be sometimes where I will be writing about sensitive or adult matter. And there may be difficult topics that I will be discussing as well as the inclusion of adult language. To be able to discuss topics that will be easy to understand through maturity while making an impact.
